What does self-acceptance have to do with it?

I received a great email from a follower this weekend. She’s struggling with the concept of self-acceptance being the answer to her problems.

I’m so glad she asked this question. I think so many women struggle with this concept, as well as coming to terms with the fact that it all begins and ends with us, which means getting down and dirty with our stuff.

I thought I owned my stuff for years, I thought I was so in tuned with my core values, my needs and desires, my forgiveness of others and in acceptance of those that weren’t aligned with my beliefs. When we think we’re connected to ourselves and have done the deep work, but in reality have not, we tend to look externally for our answers, and as a result we compare, judge, attribute reasonings to false realities, and are forever being let down.

Why are we always being let down? It’s because our needs CAN’T EVER be met if we ourselves don’t even have an internal alignment with them.

How do we get to the point where we’re connected to our inner needs and aligned? This is through true authentic self-acceptance. Many women attribute self-acceptance to body image and personality. Self-acceptance is so much more. It’s acceptance of who you were born to be, alignment with your core beliefs and values, your inner knowing-with this comes acceptance and love for the body and personal characteristics. This alignment with self is the foundation and catalyst for everything else we do and create in our lives.

How do we become accepting of ourselves?

  1. Gain Awareness. Journal about your triggers, what they are, when do they occur, and with whom do they happen?

  2. L.I.N.C - LISTEN to your thoughts, INTERVIEW them-what’s the truth in them? Is there any? NAVIGATE through them with compassion, and CONQUER them by replacing the inaccurate thoughts with true self-approving and supporting thoughts.

  3. Set the intention to do this each morning and the reprogramming will happen.

With the reprogramming comes self-acceptance, and with self-acceptance comes:

  1. Internal and external health

  2. Career growth

  3. Stronger relationships with friends, family, spouses, and children.

  4. Clarity and peace
