How To Take The College Leap Without Fear And Uncertainty: You Are Everything!

The leap from high school to college is comparable to that of diving into the abyss of the big blue ocean.  One knows there's beauty to be met out there in those dark blue waters, but at the same time there's the unknown of what lies beneath the surface that lends a sense of trepidation and fear.

My girls are beginning to fear the dive into the beautiful sea that awaits them this Fall.  They've seen and heard all about life out there, all it has to offer them, all they have to gain from diving in and taking it all in, but the unknown is beginning to overpower the excitement.

As the days in their high school count down into the single digits, their trepidation about leaving the security of the four walls that have encapsulated their everything is mounting.  Freedom awaits them-garbed in black, they'll hold the paper ticket to the next level of life, but what exactly does that look like?  Therein lies the unknown I liken to the beautiful blue dark waters of the ocean.

My girls are coming to me with verbatim common language of fear and uncertainty.  "What if I'm not myself there?" "What if I'm not enough there?" "What if nobody likes me?" "What if I don't find anyone like me?" "What if I can't handle it?" "What if I don't like it there?" In the same breath they move easily from this language to words of excitement and hope-utilizing the tools that they've created in our work together.   This is human nature, our minds are like the deep ocean waters surrounding us with uncertainty and some danger, but we have the ability to put our oxygen tanks on, dive right in, and see all the beauty available to us.

They have the oxygen tanks.  We've been doing the work.  They know without a doubt who they are, what they believe in, what they want from life, and even more importantly-what they don't want.  They have the survival mechanism they need to move confidently and steadfastly through the waters this Fall.  Their oxygen comes in the form of a true authentic sense of self, a deep connection to their inner compass, their true unwavering connection to their values.  It is these connections that my girls reach for swiftly when the overwhelming feelings begin to creep in.

Girls, you don't need to stay out of the beautiful blue ocean waters, you need to be prepared ahead of time. You need to have the tools available and ready.

Girls, You have the answers within you ~ you are your answer ~ you can't ever go wrong if you follow your inner compass!

It's often in the most feared parts of life that we find the greatest growth and joy.
